AND THE WINNER IS....

Helloooooo Tanzania, hope y'all doing great. cuz i am super excited. its true that we have been quiet for quite sometime but patience truly pays.
On the 6th of august Abdul Rahman Ali Banishayba and Hudhaifat Ali Hamdan two of the suza innovation club team members and their teacher Mr Abdul Majid went to Dar es Salaam to represent SUZA secondary school and Zanzibar in the young scientists Tanzania competitions.
The competition involves different schools all around Tanzania in which they compete in different scientific projects in different categories, including technology and maths, social and environmental science, biology and chemistry and others.
SUZA went with the en route for bug juice project in which they competed with other schools in the biology and chemistry category. The project involve the making of an environmental friendly insect killer/repellent as a substitute to the normal daily used insecticides which contains harmful chemicals to humans and environment at large. SUZA secondary school were competing for the first time ever and despite the odds, we were able to win the special biological award and bring the trophy home.
This surely is from the hard work we have put in and the commitment we all had from the beginning and it shows how much the youth are ready to make the world a better place, for our determination and spirit is 100% patriotism and the urge to make sure, as the slogan of young scientists Tanzania says 'using science and technology to transform Tanzania', we give all we have to make that possible is mountain high.
Special thanks to our teachers for the support they gave us, the board who were there from the beginning. The head of secondary department Mr Abdallah Ali Abeid and Mr Abdul Majid, for they were a great motivation for us and a pillar for us to lean upon. GOOD JOB once again ABDUL RAHMAN and HUDHAIFAT, SUZA is proud of you, and Tanzania is lucky to have you.
A SPECIAL MESSAGE: SUZA secondary school will always be there for their community and as our motto says, suza secondary school a catalyst for social change. we would love to take this opportunity to call out for the youth generation to serve and think positively on bringing those necessary changes to their communities. To all Zanzibar science students who think a dream is too big and far to reach, anything is possible, if you can dream it, you can have it. Just remember SUZA did it, and so can you.

GLOBAL ENTERPRISE CHALLENGE

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing alright. Today we are going to surprise you with a little thing right out of our pockets. we will skip an episode of the making of yet to be the best most efficient and environmental friendly insect killer/repealer. Instead will talk about a little side project of ours known as the GLOBAL ENTERPRISE CHALLENGE.
Global enterprise challenge is the online competition where as students get the chance to come up with the best business idea and implement it to the real world and use the gains to help their communities. The competitions do not only allow the students to learn about how to run a business but also to think like a businessman/business women and grant the students with the required confidence to stand up for their ideas and give them the knowledge that no matter what small amount of capital you have, you  can always turn it to something big and benefit from it.
SUZA INNOVATION CLUB decided to join the GEC as a way to inspire our fellow students together with the teachers, but also the surrounding community who think just because they where born poor they cant get rid of poverty while without knowing they are sitting and living in places full of resources just lying and wait to be exploited by them.
As a club, we had to come up with the best idea we could think of and that had to involve the use of the surrounding tools, that are free and some unwanted materials, make them useful again. in other words, recycling and so we did.
Among the items we are making are bracelets, earrings, necklace, pencil holders and notebooks using calendars bottles, Popsicle sticks and papers.

Now we have reached the selling stage and its opening on monday the 3rd of july 2017. we have got quite a few orders already and people area excited and inspired from our design. For those who will be touched and want to support us please use the contacts at the buttom for more information.

Hello everyone, happy friday and yet another day in the holly month of Ramadhan. Been quite for a while but that is due to the tight schedule we have been having towards our researches we have been conducting towards our great conclusion
As last time we were more concentrated on studying the theory and literature of the plants ingredients and that has helped much on our experimental ways.
After quite sometime now processing we have decided to come with a way to extract the oils from each plant then test them on insects like mosquitoes, bugs and other insects
From our knowledge of chemistry we have used distillation method to extract essential oils from cloves, green leaves and lantana camara and solvent extraction method to extract the oil from garlic since its oil is not essential.
The use of distillation concerns the consideration of boiling points between water and the plant. For essential oils the amount of volitility is high, hence the boiling point is below water's boiling point. After the evaporation of the ingredient towards the process the vapour is condensed and then settled. The oil has higher denser than water, hence it stays down ready to be separated.
Lantana Camara did not produce any oil from distillation, so we now have clove oil and thinking about the means to combine the solitions and the oil or either to make the best insecticide possible.
It has been a pleasure to work with the Chief Government Chemist of Zanzibar and we are learning alot of things to help us not only with our project, but with our studies and enviroment in general.. We are looking forward to a better day everyday.
Stay tune for more updates from our blogs, subscribe and share to spread the knowledge and the motivation for the youth. Without forgetting commenting and share any knowledge u have with us. We can do it.... Everybody can! Till next time.. Chao

Good morning everyone, and a happy sunday.. Its been glorious outside and chilly. Ready to start our weekends with our newest updates about the journey towards edible bug juice..
After a series of researches, we come to understood that, many insect killers contain a large amount of poisonous ingredients such as propoxur which is classified as highly toxic to human. Carbamate can be absorbed in a variety of ways, breathing, eating and or skin contact.
During wide-scale spraying of propoxur in malarial control activities conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), only mild cases of poisoning were noted. Applicators who used propoxur regularly showed a pronounced daily fall in whole blood cholinesterase activity and a distinct recovery after exposure stopped. No adverse cumulative effects on cholinesterase activity were demonstrated
Prolonged or repeated exposure to propoxur may cause symptoms similar to acute effects.  That is just among what drives us to find this special bug killer which is harmful to humans and environment as a whole
We have now concidered adding cloves as a part of our research to finding the cure, and its been fairly helpful so far. We are now on the edge of findin the why and how will our ingredients help us and a means to mix them together.
This is a dream like no other and its about to become true. With your support and our dedication and passion to serve our community, we can make it happen...

Till next sunday... We'll update you and hopefully have the results in our hands. Thank you all and have a great weekend :)

Good morning fellas, hope y'all doing fine. I am so excited now to bring out a new topic to you, for today we will be talking about the newest project that we are currently working on. Remember i told you guys about the major scientific breakdown? yeah!! Thats what we are up to right now.. Please stay with me, till the end of our journey, i'll take you from right the start and update you every other day about where we at and what we doing towards this unbelievable conduct by first presumed to be just another A level students.

                                                        THE IDEA
In tropical sites pests and bugs and all kinda small insects are almost inevitable, since the environment best suits their living standard and so they dwell. mosquitoes, pests and all types of bugs are surrounding our homes bringing all sorta Diseases every now and then. Thats all how it started it was time to take action to protect our own... Our plants were ed by them, our people are being infected and no place was safe anymore even for those who were using the insect killers and the pesticides available now in the markets.
The solution is very possible actually and perhaps was already been put to action for quite sometime. The thing is despite killing the bugs and everything good it does to our crops the pesticides available are also harmful to our environment, to humans and our crops too. And there we felt the responsibility as youth who had the knowledge to actually applying it in saving the mankind.
                                           TOWARDS THE EDIBLE BUG JUICE
After knowing the problem we had to come up with the solution of course and as a group of people with science knowledge we took the honor of doing a little research and figure out a way to kill these insects in a way that will bring nj harm to humans and our crops and the environment st large. Thats where our main ingredient came from, a miraculous plant known as lantana camara. Its a plant like no other, its effect towards the insects is unbelievable and its result to humans no harms.
As we conduct more scientific researches now we are considering mixing the plant with other natural ingredients like lemon grass, garlic, lantana leaves and flowers all to come up with the kind of pesticide that will kill the insects effectively but also bring harmless effects to humans and the environment at large.

STAY TUNE FOR MORE UPDATES ABOUT OUR RESEARCHES, VIDEOS OF OUR EXPERIMENTS AND MORE ABOUT OUR JOURNEY TOWARDS A HEALTHIER FUTURE.. CUZ OUR JOURNEY HAS JUST STARTED, IF WE CAN AND SO CAN YOU.!!!

 THE PROJECT(TOWARDS EDIBLE BUG JUICE)

Monday, May 15, 2017

Good Morning everyone, such an exciting day and what a way to start your week. Wake up that brilliant mind of yours for we are bout to share with you our first ever project and that being the automatic irrigation system. Buckle up, and be ready to be amazed.
Over the course of the years in Africa farming has been considered among the very major means of income and food among the many African dwellers, in Tanzania it has even been more official and important after the 4th president of Tanzania Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete introduced a campaign knows as 'kilimo kwanza' during his elections campaigns. knowing that farming is that important in our country we as innovators and people desperately trying to help our community we came up with a system that will benefit the agricultural sector in our country and that's where the 'automatic irrigation system' came up and we knew from right then that the project was going to change not only our lives for helping others but the lives of many small and large scale farmers in Tanzania and we knew that the system was just going to be the beginning of an era, the era of opportunity and greatness. where young minds having a chance to bring the future right up to our homes. The system was designed to have the function of automatically irrigate the fields without being monitored by anyone. All you have to do is connect the circuit to the water pump and it does the rest.  that's where our journey started.
                                             THE JOURNEY TO THE MAKING
As young minds in this fields and this being our first project ever we had to go through a series of researches before we could do anything, we had a system to make but still had no idea where to start. after consulting a group of engineers and other experts we knew the first step would be the making of a circuit. for any electronic system to work the circuit is certainly the most important part of them all, here is where you give the system its purpose and function. with the help of our engineer Mr Hassan we manage to come up with a rather complicated enough circuit to make our system work
With a little bit of programming and coding we manage to put our circuit to work the way we wanted it to work and just after a couple of months of determination and hardworking our fully functioning system was ready to surprise us and it was the most beautiful thing we had ever seen after all that hardworking, and it  payed off. nobody thought we could do it at first but damn did it feel good to prove them wrong.
           -CHALLENGES
In any projects there is certainly gonna be many challenges and for us starters especially they are actually inevitable. among the many challenge we faced are ;
Time, this may not seem much but for students who try to perform well in their class time was always gonna be a challenge to us. we had to spend a lot of our weekends working on a system that we weren't even sure that it is gonna work anyways and balancing the time for school and our extra curricular activity was among the major problems, but we managed to overcome this by being efficient and the love for what we were doing was always the key to our success.
Equipment, for a scientific project like this we needed some tools that some we had never heard of and weren't available in Tanzania and had to buy them from other nearby countries and some we had to make for our self. for example we had to make our own adapter using rectification so we can generate the amount of voltage we wanted for our particular system to work, with the help of our experts and our school board we were able to overcome the equipment problem money-wise and tech-wise
Experience, at some point we all new this was gonna be a major problem to us. inexperience led to many more working ours, failure at times before we manage to perform a certain task. but we took it all as a challenge and because we had hope and vision, this was able to be overcame and every time we created a circuit and failed, we got right back up the next day with a new one and fail again up until it comes up right. and that is just before another failure comes up and then we had to spend another extra time working trying to make things right. But we never give up and we certainly made it.
                                       LESSON FOR EVERYONE
You never know what you are capable of up until you step up and do what you wanna do and test yourself to the limits. Do what seemed to be impossible is all it took to awaken our minds and to know what we can do and work for more is just the beginning of our long and unfinished journey to greatness in Zanzibar and Tanzania at large.
